Generic Tegretol An Anticonvulsant Used For the Treatment of Epilepsy & Trigeminal Neuralgia Part 1

Introduction

Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant used for the treatment of seizures and nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy. Some times, it is also used to treat bipolar disorder. It decreases the nerve impulses which are responsible for seizures and pain. It is available in the form tablets under the brand name Generic Generic Tegretol. It comes as chewable tablets of 100 mg, tablets of 200 mg, XR tablets of 100, 200, and 400 mg, and as a suspension of 100 mg/5 mL (teaspoon).

Drug Indications

Generic Tegretol tablets, being an anticonvulsant drugs are intended for the treatment of Epilepsy and Trigeminal Neuralgia. Studies have revealed that patients having partial seizures with complex symptomatology and generalized tonic-clonic seizures have greatly responded to the medication than other kind of epilepsy. Being analgesic, it is indicated for treating pains associated with trigeminal neuralgia.

Mechanism of Action

Carbamazepine reduces polysynaptic responses and blocks the post-tetanic potentiation. It reduces or abolishes pain induced by stimulation of the infraorbital nerve and depresses thalamic potential and bulbar and polysynaptic reflexes.

Dosage Information

The dosage of Generic Tegretol tablets depend on the type treatment it is being used along with the body condition of the patient.
